Google Calendar can at last sync with Apple's iCal using the CalDAV protocol without having to resort to any third-party utilities. After some configuration (http://www.google.com/support/calendar/bin/answer.py?answer=99358) any changes to either calendar should be instantaneous. You can set up multiple calendars, though the process is a marginally more involved.
It is not all good news though, there are a number of caveats:
It only works with the Leopard version of iCal
Event reminders and notifications don’t sync yet
To Do items on Google Calendars can not be created yet.
